Men and women are the same except for a hang-down and a crease. We all have the same capacity for success as long as we apply ourselves. I am absolutely fed up with the notion that men are excused from certain behaviors because they are men and women are prone to more feelings because they are women. Our environments play a huge role in who we are and that is not to be taken for granted. If your home was full of communication and support you may be more outspoken and in touch with your feelings of happiness and discontent like what most would say "women" are. If you were in a house that was did not recognize human traits then you might be sheltered and unlike a human like some "men" feel like they need to be in society's eyes. We are all the same simple and plain and until society recognizes that fact the world won't be right. Each and everyday I encourage you to do the right thing and be a positive force to everyone you encounter. Each one, teach one and we can all become...

Keeping a Balance

In life we are dealt many different hands and we must carefully choose how to handle the cards dealt. With any endeavor make sure that you prioritize and make the best use of your time. As I try to keep this balance, I keep my focus on my ultimate goal. But all work and no play makes Dre a dull boy, so I take time out to laugh as much as possible and never take myself seriously. As I start a small gig and try to improve my GPA not a lot of time will be devoted to staying young and being in the mix. But don't cry for me cause in 3 weeks I will be in the playboy's paradise-Miami. I will not miss anyone that is not going and I don't want anyone that is going that I already know to get in my way. Just let me party, enjoy the sun,the food and of course the scenery. I'm going with a gang of friends and I'm gonna have a blast. That's how I'm living and you should to,for that's the only way to stay....

Double Edge Sword

Now I might be Public Enemy #1 after this but it won't be the 1st or last time so ehh. I support Kanye West and I will not stop anytime soon. I won't excuse his wreckless behavior but at the same time this is the Kanye that everyone wants. Once upon a time I would always give Kanye the side eye as he delivered his theatrics. Just shook my head and kept it moving. But due to musical genius, alacrity to be himself and zeal for life I became a fan. What makes everyone love Kanye is what makes everyone hate him. Crazy as it sounds, I thought he could do no wrong for a minute the way some in the culture made it out to be. My album of the day is Graduation and it is a fitting tribute to a new start for me that I pray can lead to opportunities to better my future. Thanks to all that have supported me and continue to support me. Yall have a blessed day and no matter what you do make sure its...

State of Hip-Hop

This has been on my mind for quite a while cause its a big part of my life and the Black experience in general. Music has been an outlet of expression probably for as long as we've been on the Earth. As slaves we sang of how we would escape massah, while harriet Tubman led us through the Underground Railroad. Straight through the Blues, R&B's beginnings, and all aspects of Hip-Hop. Music and the freedom of voice it provides is a great part of our culture. This unity is being challenged by the immature views of the hip-hop community. Now of course it is not all of us but a great percentage of us are guilty of pure ignorance and this ignorance can also be seen in many artists. I am a huge fan of the much scrutinized Souljah Boy much like I'm a huge fan of Jay-Z. My thinking is if he's that talented at 18 I've got love for him. Is he always my cup of tea...NO! Do I shudder sometimes when I hear him...YES! But think about what hip-hop would be without Uncle Luke, seriously. He's not at all a thug and would never enter the sentece as a lyricist like a contemporary of his Ice Cube would be. But he definitely put the fun in a lot of 90s parties and dammit I would not mind rocking out to I Wanna Rock while some ladies do the tootsie roll. Just cause everything isn't Jay-Z smooth,Coomon conscious or Kanye hipster doesn't mean it isn't a good piece of work or doesn't have its audience. With that said every song doesn't need a dance either. But don't knock Souljah Boy for he's a product of his environment. Nelly isn't exactly a thug either and he's readily accepted. Lets all raise the maturity level and stop bringing each other down. I hate to use the word hate and I don't believe I have haters cause I'm too busy doing me but there is way too much hate in the world. We can all eat and we all have something to add to the portrait of hip-hop. Let's appreciate when artists push the envelope and think outside the box. Its the reason Lil Wayne is the hottest rapper our right now. He will not conform, he stands up for what he believes in and he takes chances to go places that others wouldn't dare go. And he's willing to work with anyone that's got a mic and a studio. Wayne is doing his best to bring the world together regardless of age and race. He is Hip-Hop right now and he's the best example of leadership that we have in hip-hop. I applaud him and you should too. More love in all areas of the black experience and you too can be...

Hey

Welcome to my blog.As this is my 1st post I will do a small intro.
I'm Dre and I thank God for his many blessings and I'm a lover of life. Health and happiness above everything. I'm a full time student and unofficial relationship guru to the hood.An avid sports fan I have a bias to the Lakers,Cowboys,Yankees and Tar Heels. Doesn't take much to put a smile on my face and just that easily I'm taken back by nonsense. This blog will be all over the place and that's how its gonna be cause its mine after all.
Hope you enjoy it...
